There are three border crossings in Baja CA. San Ysidro, Otay and Tecate. The San Ysidro crossing is open 24 hours a day.

The Otay Mesa crossing is open daily from 6:00 A.M. to 10:00P.M..

The Tecate, CA crossing that is farther East is open from 6:00 A.M. to midnight.

Visitors to the Northern part of Baja CA do not need passports or tourists cards if staying in the country for 72 hours or less. If you plan to stay longer or travel beyond Ensenada, you'll need to obtain a tourist card. This document is free of charge; proof of citizenship is required.

Traveler Information

1. Only one bottle of liquor (1 liter) per person, is allowed to be brought back to California. PERSON MUST BE 21 YEARS OR OLDER.

2. Three bottles of beer per person are allowed to be brought back. PERSON MUST BE 21 YEARS OR OLDER.

3. One Carton of cigarettes (200 cigarettes) and or 100 cigars can be brought back.

4. NO fireworks are allowed to be brought back to California!
